This tool is under development to introduce children and other newcomers to taxonomy. It is called the 'Taxonomic driving license' and serves the users by introducing various Danish species - and why they are interesting. The tool also involves the students in the structured procedure of identification and may encourage them to investigate other branches of science (Scientific literacy).
The online user-friendly facility is combined with physical collections of the organisms to offer an interactive and aesthetic 'game'. Each game level consists of uploaded animated images in the left side of the page (the images can be turned by the mouse) and in the right side of the page the identification key characters requested in the identification key are placed. When connected online, the students can help each other.
The learning and motivation aspect clearly surpass any control objective for the children: Another stamp in the printed Taxonomic driving license is the tangible evidence that the students have reached a new skill level in the ability to identify animals, plants, fungus and fossils.
